Hope everyone is getting through the holidays without a hitch. Business has been pretty quite this season. However we saw a little light this past weekend in sales. I think it's important to keep this in mind as you price your work.

The postcards are on order and should be here next week. I have the posters in my possession.

REQUEST - I need to know how many postcards you need for your customer lists, and for leaving them in the high traffic spots in your area (fabric stores, fiber stores, etc.)? As well as posters ...we have 30 posters to distribute. If you get posters, go ahead and use them for the marketing. I will order more later for your keepsake poster. Let me know your numbers ASAP!

FINAL DEADLINE - 1/19 - 22/2010. This is the critical deadline, so please let us know in advance when you plan to ship or hand deliver.

We have taken the photos of the "Landscape" pieces and are working on the book. This book will be for sale in the gallery. We are still contemplating the size.

Jack Brockette will be hosting a class during the opening weekend, I'll let you know more info as it comes in.

OPENING RECEPTION - The opening will be from 5 p.m. - 9 p.m. on Friday, 1/5/2010. Last year there were wall-to-wall people and we expect it to be just as exciting. Someone asked of they could bring wine - yes of course you can. Each weekend during the show, we offer wine for their enjoyment as they stroll through the gallery. So the more wine we have to keep them tipsey, oops, I mean to keep them in the gallery, to more likely they are to enjoy a piece of artwork at home.

You are invited to hang out in the gallery during the opening weekend or anytime. Customers always enjoy meeting the artists.

LODGING - Let me know if you are planning to stay the night in Round Top. I have had conversations with some of the B&B's. There may be some discounts heading our way. I'll keep you posted.

Until the next update, have a wonderful holiday season and "Thank You" all for everything you do for us.

Good afternoon all. Thank you all for getting your work in for the 2nd deadline. Wonderful artwork!

The next and final deadline is 1/19 - 22/2010.

Be sure to install hangers, wires, or whatever your hanging mechanism is before you mail or drop off. We will not have the time to do these things while hanging the show.

We will begin the photography for the "Landscape" pieces this week. As well as postcard and poster design.

That's about it on the rainy afternoon. Take care and thanks for everything.

Just a few reminders:

Time is quickly approaching leading up to the December 2nd deadline. (we need 2 pieces in our possession)

Please let us know when you are planning to come by or if you will be mailing your piece. We will be opened the entire Thanksgiving week, except Thursday of course. Monday Tuesday or Wednesday is open for you to drop off your work. We insist that you do not plan on Thanksgiving weekend, it's our busiest weekend of the year. Tomorrow we have a few that are bringing all of their work.

Be sure to include a listing of your work, with descriptions, and with prices.

Tomorrow we will be sending an email with our contract, to those of you that are new to the gallery.

I think that's all for now, Gerald

Thank you all for being so patient with my timing. Debbie and I just returned from Providence, RI where we were participating in a fine furniture show. We had a blast. Took us a week to get home because we were touring other art galleries, especially in Asheville, NC. Wow! We saw wonderful fine crafts. We came away feeling very proud of Copper Shade Tree and felt we are on the right track. The only difference is, instead of 1000 square feet, they had 12,000 square feet. Thanks to you all, Copper Shade Tree is on the rise. THANK YOU!

I will use this page to keep you up to date with changes and upcoming dates.

The first item is ...The December 1, 2009 date has changed to December 2nd, 2009. This is a Wednesday and we open from noon - 4 pm. Remember, this is the day that your "Landscape" piece is due. If you have already submitted your landscape piece, then you need to submit your 2nd piece. Bottom line is, by December 2, 2009, we need to have 2 of your pieces submitted. This will give us more time to do the photography for the book and for website.

All for now. Thanks again. 11/2/09

"The Art in Fiber"

February 5 - March 7, 2010

Copper Shade Tree - Fine Craft Gallery
206 E. Mill St.
Round Top, Texas

www.coppershadetree.com

Copper Shade Tree is a fine craft gallery located in Round Top, Texas. Our small town is a tourist attraction for visitors from around the world.  The gallery focus is the Texas artist. Currently, there are nearly 80 artists represented in the gallery, with two-thirds of them live within 150 miles of Round Top, of which we consider to be local art.

Once again, it's time to prepare for our February Fiber Show. This will be the fourth year to host this popular event. Each year we've expanded the show to include more areas of Texas. The 2009 show included 18 fiber artists with a total of 102 art quilts displayed in the gallery and 114 art quilts displayed on our website. For 2010, our intent is to include a smaller quantity of pieces, but not necessarily the number of artists.

As some of you know, we continuously change the look of the gallery. We want our customers to feel as though they are walking into a different gallery each time they visit. This also helps them get a different perspective of each piece of art. Our gallery is a tool that helps educate the public about fine craft in Texas.

The new approach for 2010 is to exhibit Fiber Wall Art. Our definition of Fiber Wall Art is: art quilt, thread painting, weaving, etc. that is framed (without glass), or applied to painted canvas, or fabric covered canvas, etc. Art quilts may use the traditional hanging method with sleeve and stick.

The requirements for the 2010 show include a total of four (4) Fiber Wall Art pieces:
*    One (1) 10" x 10" fiber art on 12" x 12" x 1-1/2" painted canvas (your choice of color) with the theme - "American Landscape".
*    Three (3) Fiber Wall Art pieces: Maximum size 4' wide x 5' long and the Minimum size is 8" x 10". (Size is limited due to space restrictions; however,  you are encouraged to submit different sizes to show your diverse creativity)
*    Either mail or hand-deliver one (1) finished piece of artwork for the jury process.
*    Each piece of artwork will be your original design.
*    Each piece of artwork will be created exclusively for "The Art in Fiber" exhibit (Work cannot have been exhibited in any other show or competition)
*    $20 application fee (non-refundable) Payable to: Copper Shade Tree
*    Must be a Texas resident
*    Consignment fee of any sold work. (65/35% ...the gallery retains 35% of sell price.

Copper Shade Tree reserves the right to reject any piece of art at the time of delivery.

Marketing and food for the Opening Reception will be provided by Copper Shade Tree.
