The Art in Fiber is a juried show with artists that were selected by internationally acclaimed fiber artist, Liz Axford. There are 100 fiber artworks that have never been seen before, all of the decorative wall pieces have been created exclusively for this show.

The Art in Fiber - Hardcover Book (AAV001) The 2010 fiber show consisted of twenty-four wonderful fiber artists from across the great State of Texas. The artists were selected for the exhibition by internationally acclaimed fiber artist, Liz Axford.
Each artist was required to create a piece of artwork built around a 12" x 12" x 1-1/2" canvas. The required theme was their personal interpretation of American Landscape. Included in this book is the collection of those fascinating interpretations.

The Pac: Coronda Beach, CA (AS20102) This piece is created from batik fabrics and sheers that have been manipulated and hand sewn to a canvas base. It is embellished with glass beads, shells, ribbons, and fibers. It commemorates her first walk along the Pacific Ocean.

Flying Solo (AS20103) This piece was inspired by the polymer clay button. All of the materials used, were randomly purchased or made at different times, but were destined to be together. It is made from hand-painted and batik fabrics that have been fused and machine quilted, "the" polymer clay button, and glass beads.

Caribbean Heat Wave (AS20104) Annie loves listening to Jimmy Buffet music while working in her studio. That music led to creating this impression of an island summer day. It is made from batik fabrics that were machine pieced and quilted, then cut and arranged. Hand-painted cheesecloth is used in the background. Glass beads and fibers are the embellishments.

A Days Catch (AS20105) Recalling the varied bits of this and that found along the beaches led to the creation of this piece. It is created from hand-dyed fabric, hand-painted cheesecloth, and a heated and painted mailing envelope that are machine sewn with metallic thread. Embellishments include hand-made beads, shells, pearls, and glass beads.

West Texas Christmas Eve (DH2010) This is the artist's interpretation of American Landscape. It is a memory of hers from 1972, when traveling to New Mexico during a church trip. To recreate her memory, she drew an original paper pieced pattern for the windmill, tree, and house blocks. They are set into a black night of fabric. The only colors present, are the Christmas lights on the various structures. She outline quilted the various components with black thread and added a string of lights windmills fading into the distance.

Cypress Knees in the Fog (DH20102) By thoroughly saturating a piece of fabric and the painting of white glue, the two fibers, paper and fabric were fused together. The glue dispersed and softened the painting to give an illusion of fog. After the piece was completely dry, Denna free-motion quilted with various colored threads and embellished with hand-dyed fabrics to create the Cypress trees.

The Eyes of the Cat (DH20103) This quilt is constructed of vividly colored fabrics mixed with black. After free-motion machine quilting, Denna added hand embroidery stitching. As the thoroughly unplanned embroidery progressed, the cat's eyes appeared.

A Red Barn in Fayette County (DH20104) This quilt began as a watercolor painting of a red barn and the surrounding landscape. By thoroughly saturating a piece of fabric and the painting of white glue, the two fibers, paper and fabric were fused together. Pillars of Light (DS001) This is the artist's interpretation of American Landscape. Silk and cotton fabric was break-down screen printed and dyed by the artist. The piece was collaged utilizing painted fabric, dyed cheesecloth, yarns and other materials. Embellished with twigs wrapped in duponi silks and copper pieces. Machine and hand stitched.
